About Us

Everyday life at home should feel a little easier.

A hard-to-open jar. A remote that keeps disappearing. Having to bend, reach, or ask for help with something that used to be simple.

Surprisingly Helpful finds practical products, clever workarounds, and everyday ideas that can make life at home a little easier and more independent.

Whether you’re a caregiver, supporting an aging parent, living with a disability, or recovering from an injury, we’re here to help you find solutions that actually make sense for everyday life.

Why Surprisingly Helpful?

We’re Pam and Allison, a mother-daughter team with professional caregiving experience and backgrounds in long-term care, health services, human-computer interaction, accessibility, and research.

Everything we share starts with one question:

What would make this everyday task easier?

Sometimes it’s a specialized product. Sometimes it’s something surprisingly simple. And sometimes you don’t need to buy anything at all.

Small changes add up.

Being able to turn off a light from bed. Open something without help. Find what you need. Reach something that was just out of reach.

Small moments of ease and independence can make a big difference in everyday life.

Have a surprisingly helpful product or trick of your own? We’d love to hear about it.
